About Us

C.A.C.T.U.S. was started in the New Zealand’s South Islands West Coast town of Hokitika by local Youth Police Officer Rob Fox to give youth an intensive and challenging training programme to assist in personal growth and develop.

C.A.C.T.U.S. grew into four rigorous stepped training programmes winning the Trust Power Regional Community Award in 2000 followed the Inaugural National Trust Power for best Youth Programme in 2001.

At least seven other towns adopted the C.A.C.T.U.S. training format with great success.

Rob Fox CACTUS Youth Training AdelaideRob entered the New Zealand Army in 1981 and transferred into the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1986. In 1993 he entered the New Zealand Police and over 15 years has been stationed in West Auckland, Hokitika, Greymouth on the South Island’s West Coast and a three year posting as a sole charge police officer on New Zealand’s south most inhabited Island – Stewart Island.

Along with front line policing services over a 12 year period he specialised as a Police Youth Aid Officer and Youth Court Prosecutor. He is nationally qualified in Search & Rescue and also served as a Rescue Helicopter Crewman on the rugged South Islands West Coast and Southern Alps.

He is currently a Search & Rescue Helicopter Crewman with Australian Helicopters Motor Accident Commission Rescue Helicopter Service (MACHRS)based at Adelaide Airport South Australia.
